Sturgeon in Eelgrass — Tracie Stewart
Sturgeon Slides Silky Water Stirs
Stepping into “Sturgeon Slides Silky Waters Stir” takes us to two locations, the first at Inch Creek Hatchery to visit a large old sturgeon. (Inch Creek Hatchery 38620 Bell Rd, Deroche, BC V0M 1H0.) From the hatchery we convoy to a local silky water body that is a known home to Sturgeon. Long days and restful, restorative lake time. We listen closely to the sounds of Sun sparkles illuminating our reflections.
Through sensory experiences, story, observation, and guided meditation we listen and commune, heart to heart, embodying and drawing from the perspective of the majestic Sturgeon, from lineage lines that date back 270 million years…and the essence of our immersion in the surrounding summer landscape.
Using texturally exquisite blended mulberry paper, graphite and lake pigment, we will create a 20’ communal scroll reflecting our experiences with this legendary water dweller. The scroll created will go on to be a part of a larger collective exhibition at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre in August 2026. No artistic ability or experience required.
