Body of Water — Tracie Stewart
Sweetness of Circles
Wondering about circles, relations, communities, seasons, time, Tracie and Teresa look outside the colonial lens of power over nature, and instead turn toward relationships within the living web. In this Sweetness of Circles, they remind us that balance is not imposed, but discovered, through circular (cyclical) philosophies and teachings.
From this place of listening, the conversation expands. We invite the other in, attuning our ears to the intersections of circles, and giving expression through visual art, sound, poetry, and documentation. Across the Lower Fraser Valley Region, a series of 13 site-specific, community-driven experiences unfold. Each gathering shapes a large scroll, woven with collective voices and visions. These 13 scrolls will come together in culmination – a living archive and exhibition – at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre in the Odlum Brown Gallery, August 19 – September 19, 2026.
The heart of this work is a movement away from the “center of the universe” worldview and into one of supporting each other as we process. It shines a light on what it might mean to live within a greater community, where all voices are honoured, and every being – human and more – holds hylozoic* rights of personhood. This is the Sweetness of Circles: a remembering of balance, belonging, and reverence in the web of life.
